Using a simple Gansey pattern on the sleeves my love of my home county of Cornwall shines through again with this super easy top down jumper. The double neckline is wide and with the slits on either side of the hem it makes for an easy fit on a chilly summers evening. Lamorna is a beautiful village with small fishing coves on the south coast of the Penwith peninsula in Cornwall that has been home to many of the Newlyn School artists and potters together with well-known writers.

Difficulty

Knitted in the round on circular needles from the top down this jumper contains only knit and purl stitches in a simple pattern that is fully detailed. Making stitches, increasing and decreasing and working between placed markers.

Yarn and Notions

Double knitting yarn (light worsted / 8 ply), I used King Cole Cherished in Nickel which is a 100g ball containing 240 meters / 262 yards. If you are using a different yarn check the meterage/yardage to ensure you have enough. There are instructions to lengthen sleeves and body, the calculations below do not take this into account.

Meters 725 [840, 950, 1120, 1235][1375, 1495, 1640, 1775]

Yards 795 [920, 1040, 1225, 1350][1505, 1635, 1795, 1945]

Balls 4 [4, 4, 5, 6][6, 7, 7, 8]

Needles:

The neckline is worked in the round.  Use circular needles that are less in length than the circumference shown in the measurements below. This will prevent stretching the neckline and yoke until you get to a circumference you can knit on the longer needles detailed here.

The remainder of the jumper is knitted on:

3.75mm (US 5) 60cm / 24 inch long circular

    4mm (US 6) 60cm / 24 inch long circular

Depending on your size and stitch count you may feel more comfortable using a longer needle for the body.

For all sizes: Either, smaller circulars of both sizes for sleeves or double pointed needles

Eight moveable stitch markers, tapestry needle

Tension

22 sts and 28 rows over 10 cm / 4 inch square in stocking stitch using 4mm needles

Measurements

The jumper is designed to have a 5 to 6cm / 2 inch positive ease, the bust measurements show the finished measurement.

Bust in cm 75 [86, 95, 106, 115][126, 135, 146, 155]

Bust in inches 30 [34.5, 38, 42.5, 46][50.5, 54, 58.5, 62]
