Having made the granny pencil case for Yarnstravaganza (a celebration of all things yarn run by the UK Hand Knitting Association and local yarn shops in September 2022) my yarn doodlings turned to a bag. They seem all the rage at the moment but something I’ve made since I started crochet to keep projects in.

This is a simple granny crochet bag utilising a ready-made tote bag which measures 35 cm by 42 cm and is turned inside out to act as the liner and handles. If you shop around on a certain online shopping page you can get some really good deals on these.

Difficulty

Working in US terms throughout, you will need to be able to do a single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch. The bag lining is a ready-made calico bag and is attached to the crochet with single crochet stitches into a hand sewn back stitch, full instructions are provided. No sewing machine is required!

Double knitting yarn (light worsted / 8 ply) – I used Stylecraft Special Double Knit, 1 whole ball of Cream (295 meters / 322 yards) and a further 300 meters / 328 yards in total of the other colours. I used Mustard, Meadow, Aspen, Cornish Blue and Emperor.
